 Application of Silicone Appliances

There are many adhesives that are available, but we would recommend the following products, depending on your exact requirements, for the use of the appliance.

Ensure that all appliances are cleaned before use. We recommend the use of Isopropyl Alcohol for this purpose. Once dry, apply adhesive as below.

 Star Prosthetic Adhesive’

Wear Non Latex Gloves when using this adhesive, eg Vinyl or Nitrile.

Spray the skin side of the appliance with a Barrier Spray, eg ‘Mehron Barrier and Sealer Spray’, and leave to dry. A hair dryer may be used to speed up the drying process.

Spray the area where the appliance is to be applied to the skin, with the Barrier Spray.

Measure equal parts of A and B, using only sufficient for the appliance/s that you are applying immediately. Mix well with a spatula.

Mark the skin with a little powder, with the appliance in position.

Stipple the adhesive thinly over the required area, using a non latex sponge. The sponge may need to be discarded after use.

Wait approximately 2 minutes and then position the appliance, pressing firmly from the middle out, ensuring no air bubbles are trapped.

Using a clean sponge or tissue, wipe from the appliance outwards, any excess, so that the skin is clear of unnecessary adhesive.

Leave to dry for approximately 4 minutes. A Hair Dryer can be used to accelerate setting time. A Transparent Make-up Powder can be applied over the appliance and surrounding area to remove any stickiness that remains. Brush off any excess powder.

Apply the Barrier Spray, over appliance and surrounding area and leave to dry.

Apply Make-up to the piece as required.

Gloves need to be thrown away.

Any adhesive remaining in the mixing pot, should be allowed to set. This can then be peeled away and disposed of.

Removal

Carefully roll up an edge of the appliance and gently pull from the skin.

Any adhesive left on the skin may be rolled off. The skin may now be washed with soap and water if required.

Appliance Care

Gently peel off the adhesive from the back of the piece.

Wash and clean appliance in warm soap water. Rinse well and if product sterilisation is required, place in a sterilising solution, such as ‘Milton’.

Pat dry and apply powder, either Transparent Make-up, or Talcum Powder, for dry storage.
